John 7

This chapter of John’s Gospel shows us:

 

 

The sad irony of many who do not receive Jesus

 

 

 

And the boundless blessings for those who do!

 

 

Doesn’t it make you thirsty?

What is it that keeps you going?

In this passage there are many looking for Jesus, but very few really find him (v26, 66)

 

What does Jesus mean when he says: “I am the bread of life”?  (v35)

 

And what does it mean to “eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood” (v53)

 

Can we say what Peter said? 

“Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”

These two miracles mirror God’s provision for and God’s salvation of Israel.

 

Jesus calls people to trust him to provide and Jesus shows that he can save.

 

Jesus is not the king people expected but Jesus IS the king God has promised… a king who provides and a king who saves.

 

 

You can trust Jesus too.

• John records the sad indifference of a man who completely misses the point…

• …and the blind antagonism of the Jewish leaders – when Jesus explains who he really is.

 

Take care that you don’t miss the point… and miss out on life!
