The Proposal

Kenmore Presbyterian Church has obtained development approval for a new church on land located at 1 Pullenvale Road, Pullenvale. The proposal consists of an application for a Material Change of Use for a place of worship, ancillary church related office and meeting rooms, multi-purpose community rooms, landscaping and car parking.

The current church congregation has been meeting in school halls and other spaces since 2006. In recent years we have been looking for a suitable place to establish a church building.

We are not a large congregation and do not have ambitions to become a ‘mega-church’ because there are benefits which come with being smaller.  The building design and anticipated community use reflects this.

In submitting this development application it is our desire to build a church which will be a valuable addition to the community into the future. Considerable effort has been invested into designing a purpose built church which is attractive, blends with the rest of the suburb of Pullenvale and is sensitive to the environment.

The architects, Hogg and Lamb, have a proven track-record. They have arrived at the current plans after much consultation and working closely with Ethos Urban Town Planners and all the relevant studies and reports.

The Overall Design

The proposed development application has two stages:

Stage 1

Retention of the existing house for use by the church for office/administration and small church related gatherings and activities.

Stage 2

Main church auditorium with capacity for up to 300 visitors

Entry foyer

Multi-purpose building with removable partitions for Sunday School rooms and various other possibilities during the week

Church administration building

Courtyard and outdoor room

Car parking for 118 spaces (including 2 accessible spaces)

Site landscaping – including plans for a community garden in the Moggill Road corner next to the neighbouring nursery.

It is anticipated that the construction of stage two could be in parts:

Construction of the church auditorium and partial construction of the car park

Construction of church administration building, multi-purpose building and completion of the car park and site landscaping.

Clustering the buildings around a courtyard serves the purpose of building a community feel for church on Sunday.  It  also makes the overall development more comparable with other properties in the area with multiple smaller buildings rather than one large one.

Some Details

The building design is informed by the site’s natural topography and has been carefully sited to maximise screening from the public domain. The proposal intends to retain a significant portion of the site’s existing mature vegetation to naturally screen and effectively integrate with adjoining uses.

The proposal includes outdoor space for the use of church goers and the local community. Supporting this, the development incorporates an accessible car park which provides appropriate parking and manoeuvring area for visitors and employees.

These cross-sections show the over-all height of the proposed structures against the height of the existing home.

The proposed construction would be attractive and use quality materials.

Terracotta roof tiles

Sand Cement Render walls

Nambucca River rocks to building perimeter
