KPC Kids
Children are a welcome part of our Church and we are keen to see them grow into faithful followers of Jesus in a caring and safe environment.
On Sundays we include children in church as much as possible. When it comes to the sermon we encourage parents to let their children go to creche, or to KPC Kids – where they learn from the Bible at their own level.
Creche caters for the really little ones, up to around three years of age. KPC Kids is run in three age-groups. Little Kids (age 3 to Prep). Middle Kids (years 1-2). And Big Kids (years 3-6). They are all welcomed and cared for by a team of trained volunteers.
During school holidays creche continues, but KPC Kids takes a break. Partly to give our volunteers a rest. And partly to give parents the opportunity to help teach their children sit through church in anticipation for when they arrive at high school age.
KPC Kids operates in accordance with the Presbyterian Church of Queensland Protection Policy for Children and Young People.
Creche
Our youngest kids are looked after by our caring volunteers, supervising play with age appropriate toys. Each week parents drop off their kids to creche during the mid-service ‘break’ and pick them up at the end of the service.
When the children reach about 3 years of age, they transition to Little KPC Kids in consultation with their parents about their readiness for a more structure learning time.
Little KPC Kids
Little KPC Kids caters for children from 3 years to Prep age (Pre-readers). The children are encouraged to learn and understand the basic facts about God, Jesus, and the Bible. Each week they learn through a story from the bible and a craft related to the story.
Middle and Big KPC Kids
With the older kids, we systematically work our way through books of the bible as we strive to disciple the kids to know, live and share the gospel. Each week there is a kids talk based on the bible passage – sometimes as part of the church service and sometimes during KPC Kids.
Middle Kids and Big Kids start their time together, learning through kids talks, memory verses, singing or playing a game. Then they split into Middle Kids (grade 1 and 2) and Big Kids (grade 3-6).
Middle Kids caters for earlier readers. Most weeks they will spend some time discussing the talk and then do a craft and/or games which help reinforce the main point for the week.
Big Kids caters for older, more confident readers. They look at the bible passage for the week, reading and discussing it to understand the main point of the passage. They also do games or crafts or other activities that help them to understand and remember what they have learnt.
Youth Group
Youth group meets at 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon, for six weeks during school term. The program includes games and Bible study. We also have socials each term – opportunities to have fun together and get to know each other better.
We run Youth Group for High School students, but we also include year 6 – as part of the transition from KPC Kids to Youth Group.
In many ways Youth Group serves the same function as Growth Group for adults. Youth Group is on Sunday afternoon rather than during a church service because we would like High Schoolers to listen to the sermon during church.
